Battle of Red Cliffs - General Election 2015 赤壁之戰 in Singapore

The Battle of the Red Cliff was a decisive battle fought at the end of the Han dynasty, about 12 years prior to the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history. It was fought in the winter of between the allied forces of the southern warlords Liu Bei and Sun Quan and the numerically superior forces of the northern warlord Cao Cao. Liu Bei and Sun Quan successfully frustrated Cao Cao's effort to conquer the land south of the Yangtze River and reunite the territory of the Eastern Han dynasty. The allied victory at Red Cliffs ensured the survival of Liu Bei and Sun Quan, gave them control of the Yangtze, and provided a line of defence that was the basis for the later creation of the two southern states of Shu Han and Eastern Wu.

GE 2015 -Battle of East Coast Singapore

With all 89 seats contested, GE 2015 will be the most hotly contested election in Singapore ever but the main battlegrounds appear to be in the East of Singapore where WP aims to wrestle and expand its footprint into 2 other GRCs and several other smaller SMCs around the area.

GE 2015 will see a decisive battle fought towards the end of the PAP dynasty, about 10 years prior to the beginning of the Three Kingdoms period in Singapore history. It was fought by the allied forces of the opposition warlords led by Opposition Chief of the Workers' Party, Warlord Low together with Supreme General Chiam See Tong against the numerically superior forces of the northern warlord Brigadier General Lee Hsien Long, the Premier of the State of Singapore.

Warlord Low with his able generals join hands with the Party Leaders of the 8 Flags (八旗子弟) aims to frustrate Brigadier General Lee's effort to reclaim Mount Aljunied and the territory along the Eastern Coast of Singapore. Only Victory at Red Cliffs of Singapore can ensured the survival of WarLord Low and gave them control of the the critical borders and line of defence that was the basis for the later creation of the twin party states in Singapore.

The Choice lies in Your Hands ! Every Single Vote Matters !

3 Main Battle Grounds

Marine Parade 5 Members GRC
Troop Strength: 146,087

Emeritus General Goh Chok Tong (Age 74)
Vs
Son of Joo Chiat, Yee Jenn Jong (Age 50)

Helm by Emeritus Senior General Goh whom promised all Singaporeans a Swiss standard of living and proudly announced at a REDAS speech in 2009 that our achievements surpassed our expectations, leaving many Singaporeans in dazed since we only managed to attain a Swiss cost of living instead.

This led to a series of heated debate in Parliament from opposition parties and even a strong fiery speech by PAP MP, Mr Inderjit singh : We can safely say that we have failed to achieve the goal set by the then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, of a Swiss standard of living for most Singaporeans, except for the higher income Singaporeans including foreigners who just recently decided to make Singapore their home. So I call for a breather in this quest of growing the population and focus on improving the lives of Singaporeans and achieve that promised Swiss Standard of living for most Singaporeans first before we plan our next growth trajectory.

Battle Commander for Workers' Party is helm by Son of Joo Chiat, Mr Yee Jenn Jong (24 March 1965) a Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) whom contested in the Joo Chiat SMC (now part of Marine Parade GRC) in 2011 where he lost by a mere 355 votes. A double Master degree holder from NUS and NTU and born in the year of our independence, Mr Yee truly personify the profile of a home grown son of Singapore.

Mr Yee Jenn Jong - A Life Long Service to the Community

We decided to contest Marine Parade also because we cannot allow the ruling party to game the electoral system for their benefit,” he said. “I have always believed that if people push you around, one should stand up and challenge back.” It took him only a few days to pick his Marine Parade Team, comprising mainly Marine Parade residents who are already volunteering in Marine Parade area. Mr Yee strongly believe that he has a highly dedicated, committed and hardworking team who would not shy away from such a battle to fight for the voice of the electorates in Marine Parade GRC.

Hua Mu Lan (花木兰) a.k.a He Ting Ru

He Ting Ru, 32, a Cambridge-educated lawyer will be part of Yee Jeng Jong's team. In an exclusive interview with mothership.sg, Ms Ting Ru shared: One thing I find very important about kendo, the art of japanese fencing is the absolute respect you must have for your opponent.I came back to Singapore in 2011 just before the general election. What really struck me at that time was that Singaporeans seemed really very, very interested about politics, they were obviously very patriotic and cared deeply about what would happen to Singapore.

The 2 hour wait to join Workers' Party

When WP won Aljunied GRC, like a lot of Singaporeans, I was very pleased and very glad that there’s been a natural development of our democratic process. At the same time I realised that they probably needed a lot more resources and help going from one seat to six in parliament, so I thought, hey, why not let’s help out with the WP. I didn’t think of it as a political statement or a career, I just wanted to use my skills to help residents.

So, I wrote in to the WP, at that time the person in charge thought I was a fan girl who wanted to meet Show Mao, so he told me to wait and I stood there for about two and a half hours just observing what was going on. And after that, the WP rep realised I was still there and talked to me about case law, and I told him about my legal background — he was convinced and I even managed to see my first case that night. I have spent the last four years doing Meet-the-People Sessions and I am glad to meet and listen to people from a diverse range of backgrounds who support us and work with us.

PM Lee - You voted for a tiger in and you got a mouse in the House ?

In response to PM Lee's comment about the lack of debate by Opposition MPs in Parliament. Records extracted from  Hansard – which is the name for Parliamentary records shows that Mr Goh Chok Tong has only spoken once in Parliament since he was re-elected in 2011 in support of the 6.9 million population White Paper in February 2013. He said at the time, “I applaud the Prime Minister and his team for their courage and leadership in tabling this paper to sketch out the next chapter of the Singapore Story.”

Where else, WP’s Yee Jenn Jong spoke a total of 87 times on an extensive range of topics in Parliament during the same term as a NCMP.

The top concern for WP?

The population issues, as it concerns Singapore’s future. Is the ruling party’s population estimates for the future accurate? WP is not an anti-foreign talent or anti-immigrant party. We welcome foreigners who can contribute to Singapore. But the priority must be Singaporeans who are born and bred here.”

3 SMC Battlegrounds that are just as vital

Mountbatten SMC

Mountbatten SMC will be another hotly contested SMC with  SPP's Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss facing People's Action Party candidate Lim Biow Chuan. Ms Chong-Aruldoss, a lawyer at Archilex Law Corporation, first alluded to her interest in Mountbatten SMC in a Facebook post on Jul 24, where she said: "As I promised four years ago, I'll be back at the polls in GE 2015. I promise to work even harder to win the hearts and minds of Mountbatten. Stay tuned."

Will Ms Chong-Aruldoss be the Fighter to Fight for your rights?

 The Answer is Right Below
Potong Pasir SMC

Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) Lina Chiam will return to contest Potong Pasir SMC under Singapore People’s Party's (SPP).  As the smallest constituency with about 17,000 voters, competition for votes in Potong Pasir could be fiercest as it was helmed by Mr Chiam See Tong for 27 years that were well respected by both SPP and PAP supporters alike, until Mrs Chiam lost to incumbent MP Sitoh Yih Pin, from the People’s Action Party, by just 114 votes in the 2011 General Election.

Feng Shan SMC (The fight for Phoenix Hill)

鳳山一戰

For the 1st time ever, PAP has field a Fresh candidate, Ms Cheryl Chan, 39 to contest in Fengshan SMC, she is replacing former transport minister Raymond Lim who is retiring. Ms Chan will be up against Advocate & Solicitor, Dennis Tan of Workers' Party, who is also a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public in Singapore.

Do we really have sufficient CPF to Retire?

Dennis Tan's key concern is about bread-and-butter issues of older Singaporeans such as whether Singaporeans will have enough to retire on solely on our CPF. Tan says, "I think we have seen…in the last year, that there has been a lot of discussions, online as well as generally about the adequacy of CPF savings for retirees in Singapore. Clearly, with the relatively low interest rate, which is not linked to inflation, this is an issue that has clearly not been resolved by the ruling party."

This is Not a Game. This is Our Future

We are not voting for the next Best Estate Manager... We are not voting for Yes Men in Parliament.... We are not voting for Scholars who plan policies in their ivory towers, oblivious to the plight and challenges of everyday man on the street.

What we are Voting for is a voice in Parliament, a Voice who will fight for our rights, freed from the shackles of a single ruling party..Every Vote Matters. This is not a game. This is our future. Your Vote will decide on how this epic battle will unfold and be written in the history books of our nation.

  1. A opposition with transparency and integrity in its finances

Would not trust a opposition which does not have transparency and integrity in its own finances which even its own WP appointed auditors have not given a clean report.
It definitely favours its own supporters so making politics same as across the border

Quoting the open letter and rebuttal from the net:-
    "2. The alleged “overpayment” by AHPETC to its former Managing Agent (MA), when compared to rates paid by PAP TCs in 2014, was an exaggeration, looking at the rates paid by PAP TCs in 2011, 2012 and 2013 according to data provided by the Ministry of National Development (MND);
[Distortion: FMSS’ MA rates were consistently higher than other TCs, in the four years that it was AHPETC’s MA (not just 2014) ). Now we also learnt that the margin of profit was 30% and the four FMSS owners made more than $3.2m a year.]
"Second, there was never any conflict of interest whatsoever between the Workers’ Party (WP) or any of its Members of Parliament (MPs) and FMSS. Neither WP nor any of its MPs or members has any interest in the business of FMSS. None of the directors and shareholders of FMSS is a member of WP.
[Untruth: The late Mr Danny Loh and Ms How Weng Fan are long time WP supporters. They acted as assentor and proposer to the WP team of candidates led by Mr Yaw Shin Leong in Ang Mo Kio GRC in the 2006 General Election. Ms How has worked for Mr Low TK in Hougang since graduating from university. FMSS was formed on 15 May 2011, exactly 1 week after the results of the GE. CPG only informed Sylvia Lim of their wish not to continue as MA in late May.]

  2. Due to word limitation

Third, there have been accusations that when the MA was working at AHPETC, the husband and wife team who owned FMSS could freely sign payments to themselves. This is not true. When WP took over in 2011, one of the first decisions made by the new Aljunied-Hougang Town Council was to require any cheques to the MA, no matter how small the amount, to require the counter-signature of AHPETC Chairman and Vice-Chairmen who have no interest in the MA’s business
[Untruth: While the payment amounts may have been pre-agreed by contract, the TC still has a duty to ensure that the services that the MA was contracted to provide were performed duly and properly. The question is, when the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen counter-signed these payments, did they take steps to counter-check that the contracted services - for which the millions were being paid - had been duly performed? The answer is clearly NO since their own auditors have observed poor governance over related third party transactions involving FMSS. And the AGO discovered specific instance of overpayment/overcharging by FMSS because it misrepresented the facts to the 2. Financial Position of AHPETC

Some people have accused AHPETC of bankruptcy and running huge deficits that are not sustainable, and also warned residents of other towns not to vote for WP so as not to subsidise AHPETC. These allegations are misguided.

AHPETC filed its audited accounts for FY 14/15, on time, by 31 August 2015. Though these accounts show AHPETC in annual deficit, this is because AHPETC has still NOT received its annual S&CC operating grant of $7.2 million from the government, which would normally have been paid to all Town Councils in April 2014. Taking into account the $7.2 million in grant which AHPETC expects to receive, AHPETC’s annual income and expenditure statement would show an annual surplus of $1.7 million.

[Untruth: MND had to withhold the grants because the TC could not file a clean set of accounts for years. Its own auditors and the AGO itself raised numerous disclaimers and concerns. As these grants are public funds, MND has a duty to safeguard how they are used and managed. Nevertheless at the request of the TC for release of the grants to pay their outstanding SF deficits, MND agreed and asked for AHPETC latest cash flow position. The TC refused to give the information despite repeated reminders viz on 2 May, 15 Jun and 6 Aug 2015. Even the High Court Judge Quentin Loh remarked that the TC had itself to blame for not securing the grants.]TC who approved the payment rates in ignorance.]
